Merry Christmas!

I hope this does not find you too frantic with last minute holiday preparations!  It is hard to believe that Christmas is only a few days away.  It seems like it comes earlier every year!  If you need a short respite, take a look at our What’s New page at https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm .  For a real visual treat, go to our catalog and type dec18b in the keyword box.  All of the new things will pop up in glorious color! There are many Christmas designs (start now for next year!, a new designer (WorksByABC), series continuations (Festive Little Fobs, Letters from Mom, Noah’s Christmas Ark, Plum Street animal stacks, Songbird’s Garden) and the 2019 edition of the Fiber and Fabric Mania Travel Guide  (Don’t leave home without it!).

Many of you have asked about our holiday hours.  It will be business as usual with these exceptions:
December 24  (Christmas Eve)   CLOSED
December 25   (Christmas Day)   CLOSED
December 31  (New Year’s Eve)   10:00-3:00
January 1   (New Year’s Day)  CLOSED

Projects for Long Evenings

Have you adjusted to the end of daylight saving time?  It seems crazy to have it get dark so early in the afternoon.  Maybe it will translate into more evening hours to stitch!  We can certainly hope so.  I know many of you are feverishly stitching on holiday projects.  If you need them for holiday gift giving, please bring them in by Thanksgiving weekend.

Our What’s new page has a long list of new charts…and a fun pair of scissors… for your stitching enjoyment.  See them at https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm .  We have the new releases from Plum Street Samplers, With Thy Needle and Thread and Carriage House along with many others.  Two new (to us) designers are Shannon Christine and Twin Peak Primitives.  We are going to need those extra evening hours to get all of these stitched!

We are encouraged by the increasing interest in cross stitch.  Young and old are rediscovering the joys of using needle and thread to make beautiful things.  Keep on stitching and share your love with your friends and relatives.  We appreciate your continued patronage!

New projects!

It is a rainy, blustery autumn day here in northern Indiana.  It is perfect for stitching or napping or both!!  It is also a good day to let you know that our What’s New Page has been updated with new arrivals at House of stitches.  You are sure to find a few must stitch projects here: https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm

I am happy to report that I am now walking with a cane or on my own!  It has been 5 weeks but I was beginning to wonder about how long the healing process was taking.  They told me it would take 6-8 weeks but for the first few weeks I thought things were getting worse instead of better!  Thank you all for your patience during this process!  And thanks once more to the ladies at the shop who have gone above and beyond what I ever could have expected to keep thing running.  I hope to be back to full speed ahead soon!

Enjoy looking at the update. We look forward to sending you the ones that need to be in your stitching basket! We appreciate your continued patronage!

And...a bit more patience, please!

Autumn weather seems to have arrived here in northern Indiana!  The trees are turning and the temperatures are going down.  Our latest What’s New page has many fall designs for you stitching pleasure: https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm .  And for you forward thinkers there are many new Christmas designs, also.

I am slowly, very slowly getting back up to speed.  I am working half days so please continue to extend your patience to us as we try to keep the shop up and running!  The ladies are doing a marvelous job filling in for all of the hours I cannot be here. Thanks for your continued understanding!

Remember we still have 2 trunk shows in progress: Lindy Jane and Tree of Life Samplings.  The models are so beautiful that you will want to see them if at all possible!

Let us know what designs are destined for your stitching basket and we will get them on the way. We appreciate your continued business!

Patience, please!

The designers have been very busy and we have the fruit of their labor to share with you.  See our latest arrivals at https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm .  There are two new scissors, six new Mill Hill kits and more charts than I am going to take time to count!  Take a look at them and let us know which ones are calling your name.

On a personal note, I need to ask for your indulgence for a little while.  Last Friday I fell and injured my knees.  I’m going to have to take some extra time to heal and the other ladies at the shop have graciously stepped up to fill in for me. We will do our best to take care of your stitching needs, it just might take a little more time as I limp along with a walker.

Happy stitching and be careful where you walk!

Two Trunk Shows!

We are excited! We have not one but two trunk shows to add to your shopping pleasure! The Lindy Stitches trunk show continues and we have added another from Tree of Life Samplings! You can see photos of our new trunk show below. The photos on the charts don't compare to seeing the stitched pieces in person. I hope you can plan a trip soon to see them for yourself.
In addition to the trunk shows we have more new charts for you on our What's New page: https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm. The overwhelming theme is autumn and Halloween with a few other themes thrown in to keep things interesting.
Now is the time to let us know if you would like to be a part of our Weekend of Stitches (October 5-7). We have just a few spots left so call us SOON! We will have a fun project during the get acquainted time on Friday evening. (No stitching required!) Pam Reed from Olde Colonial Designs is a wonderful, patient teacher and she will be leading us through her project "Needful Box of Mine" on Saturday and Sunday. Another highlight is the great lunches that will be served by the chefs at T-Bones!
We are planning an ornament class for Wednesday afternoon, October 10. Call for details. Another class can be scheduled for an evening if there are enough people who are interested. Just let us know!
Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your stitching life!

Almost September!

More new projects are vying for our attention at www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm.  In a fun coincidence, we have Part 8 in two different series-Little House Needleworks Farmhouse Christmas and Blackbird Designs For the Birds!  If you like Hardanger, be sure to see the four new designs from Satin Stitches. They are breathtaking!  Autumn Blessing from Waxing Moon has a wonderful border of leaves around the verse in the center.  It would be a great fall project!  Jardin Prive has cute Halloween design with a skeleton lounging on top of the word Halloween. In the center a white pumpkin replaces the letter O with bats, spiders, orange pumpkins and a crow rounding out the design.  I’ll let you look at all of the latest arrivals for yourself; words never do as well as a photo!
Judy Whitman from JBW Designs has informed us that her recently released chart, Williamsburg Christmas has some errors in the color key. We have stickers with the corrected color key that can be placed over the incorrect one. Or, you can find the corrections on her website jbwdesigns.com and the Friends of JBW Designs Facebook page. Judy sends her apologies for the error.
If you have been undecided about signing up for our October 5-7 Weekend of Stitches, now is the time!  We have a few spaces left and I have the pre-stitching kits on hand so you can get started stitching right away. It is going to be a great weekend!
This is a photo of a sweet little pincushion ttht was stitched by our friend Donna. It is called Down in the Valley by Blackbird Designs. She used a Sudberry House pincushion to finish it. Good job, Donna!

Thank you for your continued interest!  We have noticed a definite increase in people who want to learn to stitch or are returning to stitching after a hiatus.  Thank you for your part in letting others know about our shop!

Feeling autumnal?

Are you ready for a new project?  We have some suggestions on our What’s New page: https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm . There are many autumn themed designs to put you in the proper frame of mind for the upcoming season. Are your scissors adorned for fall?  The "Pumpkin Kitty Scissor Fob" is a quick little project to properly outfit them for fall and Halloween! (There are a few things for those of you who are approaching spring in the southern hemisphere.)  And, just to help us remember how fast the year is going, we have the annual "Heart in Hand Wee Santa"!  He’s a funky guy with a striped hat, polka dot pants and a bird perched on his wide mustache! See all the new arrivals and let us know which ones you would like to have in your mailbox.
This week I finally took a few minutes to finish a project that has been patiently waiting for my attention. It is "Acorn Stitching Box" from Jeannette Douglas Designs. It is in a six inch round Shaker Box from  Lone Elm Lane.

If you have been thinking about joining us for our Weekend of Stitches (October 5-7, 2018), we have a few spaces still available. You do not want to miss out on a relaxing stitching weekend away from your everyday stresses!  More information is available here: https://www.houseofstitches.com/events.html . I hope you can join us!

Lindy Stitches Trunk Show!

This is our Lindy Stitches Trunk Show display!  I hope you can visit us to see it in person!

Happy August!

I’m not sure how we landed in the eighth month of the year; but here we are.  It has been a fun week here at the shop.  We started the week with a visit from some young people who are in LaPorte to take part in a summer songwriting camp called The Emerging Sound.  It is hosted by People & Songs to equip the next generation of musicians, songwriters and leaders.  They came into the shop to ask if they could put up a poster for a concert taking place in November.  (“Turn Up the Lights”, November 2-3, 2018 at the Civic Auditorium in LaPorte.) They were intrigued by the needlework on display and we assured them that they would be capable of stitching, too. The next day four of them came back and we gave them an impromptu stitching lesson. The day after that they brought a fifth person who wanted to learn to stitch!  It was so much fun to share our love of needlework with such enthusiastic students. They even serenaded us with one of the songs written during their camp!  When they go home to their respective states they will be taking a skill that can be shared with their friends there.

Yesterday we had a visit from a new designer who lives in Plymouth, Indiana. Stephanie Webb produces charts under the name of Lindy Stitches.  Her designs use fun, fresh colors in a variety of subjects. She brought us a trunk show with 10 of her best-selling designs. You can see them on our newly updated What’s New page: https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm.  It is very exciting to be able to showcase the work of a talented young designer!

You will also want to see the latest Farmhouse Christmas design, Cock-a-doodle-do, from  Little House Needleworks.  Mill Hill has a new quartet of kits called A Visit from St. Nick. A cute Baby Racoon is the latest from TechScribes.  Mermaids are the subject of new charts from Lila’s Studio and Tiny Modernist. Cottage Garden Samplings is beginning a new series called The Songbird’s Garden. The first chart features Northern Cardinals and Christmas Roses. There are many more designs; I will let you see them for yourself. Then just let us know which ones need to be added to your personal stash! We appreciate your continued interest and patronage!

New projects!

We have an updated What’s New page for your shopping pleasure: https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm.  We have many designs that are part of continuing series from your favorite designers. The latest arrivals include Part 6 of the Farmhouse Christmas series from Little House Needleworks. Their Summer ABC’s completes that 4-part series.  Heartstring Samplery’s Festive Little Fobs series continues with Seaside Edition.  If your summer vacation included encounters with moose or bears you can commemorate it with Wild North Runner from X’s & Oh’s. I know many of you like foxes so be sure to see the very dapper fox in Red Fox Vineyard by Artful Offerings.

We continue to take reservations for our 2018 Weekend of Stitches.  You can see the details here: https://www.houseofstitches.com/events.html. (I have had reports that some people are getting only the 2017 information when they go to that address. If that happens to you, try refreshing your page.)  We would love to have you join us for a weekend of stitching fun and relaxation!

Summer/Christmas Stitching

Happy summer!  We have new Christmas projects for you!!   How divergent is that?! The Winter Holiday Mill Hill kits are here!  I know some of you wait for them every year so you can start your Christmas projects. This year’s ornaments include a menorah and dreidels.  The 2018 Prairie Schooler Santa is here and he’s building a snowman while a bunny watches.  If you like to stitch with the current season, Abby Rose has Long May She Wave-In God We Trust and Hands on Designs brings us Knee High. Pickle Barrel has a whole series of summery designs. Over one stitchers need to see the latest arrivals from Heart’s Content. All the new designs can be seen at https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm.

Our Fall Weekend of Stitches will be October 5-7, 2018.  The information will be on our website later this afternoon. Just click on the Events button.  Pam Reed from Olde Colonial will be teaching us her Needfuls of Mine Walnut Sewing Box project.  The box lid, pincushion and scissor fob are all stitched in Pam’s beautiful color selections.  This is a project that you will be proud to have holding your "needful" supplies on the table beside your favorite stitching chair. Space is limited so sign up early.  I hope you can join us!

Strawberry Sale!

It’s June!  In Indiana that means it is strawberry time.  To celebrate, we are having a 25% off sale on all of the Erica Michaels strawberries that we have in stock!  (We will take the discount off your order when we process it.) They are so much fun to make!  They are like potato chips; you can’t have just one!

More projects are waiting for you at https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm . Things are gearing up for fall and holiday stitching! Just a few weeks ago we received the Autumn kits from Mill Hill and this week we received the holiday kits!  They arrived too late for this update but you can see them at www.wichelt.com. Just click on new products (on the left side) and then kits.  We will have the photos on our next update.  Another late arrival is the 2018 Prairie Schooler Santa.  If you would like any of these items just put a note in the customer comments area of your order form.

If you are feeling like stitching something patriotic, take a look at Festive Little Fobs-Americana Edition and Stars and Stripes Forever Stocking, both from Heartstring Samplery.  Another new patriotic design is Every Heart from Country Cottage Needlework.  The Fourth of July is fast approaching so your stitching bag needs to have something red, white and blue to stitch!

Mark your calendars for the first weekend in October!  Pam Reed from Olde Colonial Designs is coming to teach her new class project called Needfuls of Mine.  I am still working out the cost and will get you that information soon along with a picture of the project!  For now, just mark October 5-7 on your calendar for a weekend of stitching fun!  More soon!

New project, anyone?

I hope you are having weather as beautiful as ours.  The weathermen are predicting summertime weather all weekend. We have waited a long time for it to get here so no complaining about the heat!  Barbeques, ball games and cemetery visits are all going to require sunscreen.

We have an updated What’s New page for your weekend enjoyment! You can see it here: https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm. There are new designs from Drawn Thread, Heart in Hand, Plum Street and more of your favorites. Choose your next project(s) today!

I have to ask for your indulgence if your orders and emails have not been attended to in the usual manner. The ladies here at the shop have done a marvelous job filling in where they could but I have not been functioning at an optimal level.  My mother has been in declining health for some time and last week she got her wish to leave her earthly home and go to her heavenly one.  So, there are orders that I thought I placed that I apparently did not and emails that I deleted instead of sending!  I hope to get things back up to speed soon!  Thank you for your indulgence.

We appreciate your continued interest! Spread the word about the benefits of stitching! It has saved my sanity on more than one occasion!

Spring has Sprung!

Our weather seems to have finally realized that it is May!  Trees and flowers are blooming and the grass has been mowed for the first time.  And, we are sneezing, sniffling and rubbing our eyes but we will pay the price for nice weather!  We have new charts to take your mind off your seasonal symptoms.  A new project always makes me feel better;  how about you?  The next installments have arrived for many of the stitching series: Farmhouse Christmas, For the Parlor, Hometown Holiday, Laundry Company, Spook Town Square and White Christmas.  Take a look at all of them at https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm .  Do you crave a challenging project?  Hands Across the Sea has just the sampler for you!  Sarah Braizear 1829 is slightly larger than 24” x 24” when stitched over two on 40 count linen.  The 44 page chart celebrates the Kings and Queen of Great Britain. We are limited to the stock that we have on hand so do not delay in getting your copy.  And while we are speaking of British royalty, be sure to see the Six Wives of Henry VIII by Primitive Hare.  Dreaming of Sunflowers from Rosewood Manor will add a permanent splash of sunshine on your sampler wall.  With Thy Needle and Thread has designed a sweet little spring basket called To Thee from Me.  I hope you enjoy our latest arrivals.  They make me want to get out my needle and start a new project!

Projects for all seasons

I hope you have a hankering for a new project because we have many new ones to fill your needs!  There are projects for every season of the year.  Even though we are having a hard time getting spring to stick around, the new Mill Hill autumn kits are here!  We have Prairie Schooler charts that have been reprinted including some of their popular Prairie Fairies and yearly Santas.  Tree lovers will need to see Daily Walk in the Woods from Carolyn Manning.  The trees could be stitched individually or as a group. Quiltz, the latest design from Long Dog Samplers, is stitched in fall colors and depicts a country village in a band sampler style.  Stoney Creek has a new book with the state birds for all the states.  I think I might have to start stitching Long May She Wave from Abby Rose Designs just to reassure myself that spring and summer are really on the way.  Find your favorites and we can get them on the way to your mailbox or hold them for you to pick up.

Here is a photo of a project stitched by our friend Cindy. It is Vintage Birds by Jeanette Douglas Designs. As always, the photo doesn't come close to showing how beautiful it is real life.  Great job, Cindy! Thanks for letting us share it.

Keep on stitching!  We appreciate your continued business!

Choose a spring project!

Once again we have updated our What’s New page with our latest arrivals.  You can see them here: https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm .  Several of the new things are market items that have just arrived! The third installment of Little House Needleworks’ Farmhouse Christmas is here and I think it is my favorite so far.  What is it that makes us all love the little red pick up trucks?  Country Cottage Needleworks has started a new series called Welcome to the Forest.  The annual Stoneware kit from Pricilla’s Pocket is a Snowman. We have added some charts from the California company Satsuma Street. They are colorful designs including the signs of the zodiac, The Emerald City and a collage of Chicago landmarks.  The new fall (Yes, fall!!) kits are here from Mill Hill!  They arrived too late to be pictured in this update but they will be on the next one.

It has come to my attention that I should be starting to plan for retirement!  If you have been thinking about having your own needlework shop, this could be your golden opportunity.  Let me know if you are interested; I would be happy to provide training/mentoring as needed.

As I write this we are getting yet another snow flurry!  Our only consolation is that it will melt soon.  And, it doesn’t keep us from stitching spring projects!  I hope all of your projects are going well. Let us know which new ones you want to add to your stitching basket.

Market Fun Continues!

Nashville Needlework Market fun continues!  Many of the items listed on our latest What’s New page, https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm , are things that were ordered at Market and have now made their way to our shop.  I am always amazed at the variety and quantity of new designs!  I do not know how the designers do it, but I am glad they do!  Prairie Life sampler from Heartstring Samplery will be of special interest to you if you are a fan of Little House on the Prairie.  Do you have the 35 new DMC colors?  Are you wondering what to stitch with them? Hope Blooms from SamSarah is the answer; it uses all 35 of the new colors!

As the end of March draws near, so does our ability to order designs from Lizzie Kate.  We finally received the order that we placed in February.  I plan to submit another one by the end of this week and a final one next week.  Please do not procrastinate if there are charts or kits that you want; let us know right away. We do not want you to be disappointed!

Take a look at our newest arrivals and tell us which ones need to be added to your collection!  We appreciate your continued business!

Nashville Stashville

I think our new nickname should be "Nashville Stashville"!  We have just returned from the Nashville Needlework market and there are 252 new items in our catalog.  In the interest of getting things online as quickly as possible we will not be listing things by designer on the What’s New page. Just go to our catalog, https://www.houseofstitches.com/search.cfm  and type nash18 in the keyword search box.  There are SO many great things in store for you there!  I do not know how the designers can continue to come up with new things to inspire us, but I am so glad that they do.

I am still recovering from all of the power shopping and power pricing and organizing so I will leave you to make your lists of things that need to find a home with you. A few things were sold out at market and they are being shipped to us.  We will add them as they arrive.  Keep checking back!  Your continued business is greatly appreciated!

Get ready for the Nashville Needlework Market!

We have an abundance of new designs to shake us out of the winter doldrums and get us ready for spring!  See them here: https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm .  It is always a positive sign when the new Mill Hill Spring Collections arrive.  They have fun beach and Easter designs as well as cute birds from Debbie Mum and a Zodiac series.  At long last DMC has issued a new color card with actual floss samples.  It is a wonderful tool for choosing your color palette and it includes the 35 new colors along with their metallics and variegated colors. Hardanger lovers will want to see the latest from Satin Stitches.  If you are planning for Christmas already, there are two new reprinted designs from Prairie Schooler and after many weeks of backorders, we finally have Bringing Home the Tree from Sue Hillis!

As many of you have already heard, Lizzie Kate will soon be retiring.  There will be one more new design called Spring Smalls that is due out on March 1. And as we understand it, we need to have orders in by the end of March for any items that we want.  After that time we will be able to order some designs from distributors until supplies are exhausted. So! If there are Lizzie Kate charts or kits that you have been wanting, order them now!! It may take them a little longer than usual to for them to arrive but we have been assured that we will get them if we order in March.  We will sorely miss the fun, fresh designs but wish them well in their retirement.

One week from today we will be heading for the Nashville Needlework Market. I know you are receiving emails and Facebook posts from your favorite designers.  Let me know as soon as possible which things you would like us to get for you.  It is a shopping marathon but I will do my absolute best to get you what you want!

I will leave you to peruse the new things and compile your must have Lizzie Kate list! Thank you for continuing to be a faithful customer!

Happy Valentine's Day!

We are having more winter weather here in northern Indiana.   It is perfect for staying inside and stitching AND shopping for more stitching projects!  We have updated our What’s New page with these suggestions for your next projects: https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm .  There are new designs from your tried and true favorite designers and we have added charts from a new (to our website) designer called The Little Stitcher. As always, there are many wonderful projects.  Some of my favorites are the ones with hearts; but then it is February with Valentine’s Day just a week away!   One of our major distributors has recently made a number of European charts more readily available for us to order. There are SO many that I thought I would let you help me decide which ones to stock.  You can see them at  https://hoffmandis.com/. Click on Friday Update or Monthly Listings.  It will not give you prices but I can let you know the cost.  The one drawback to charts from other countries is the cost.  They are frequently $15.00-$35.00.  So, that is why I thought I would get your input before I order!  These could be the answer if you are looking for something a little different for you next project.

Have a Happy Valentine’s Day!  We love our customers!

New projects for snowy days!

One of the charts on our updated What’s New Page (https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm) sums up our feelings about the weather.  It is from Artful Offerings and it says, “More Snow…Oh! No!”  So far we have 105 inches for this winter and this morning found us with 2 more inches.  The good thing is that it makes perfect weather for stitching!  We have a nice selection of new projects and accessories for your stitching pleasure.  The 2018 Collector’s Heart is here as well as Lizzie Kate designs that celebrate love.  Those of you who are sheep collectors will not want to miss our new sheep scissors.  They are so cute that you might have to have a pair in each color!  If house pets are more your thing be sure to see Beware of Dog (And Cat).  The Nashville Needlework Market is fast approaching!  Glendon Place is offering a Limited Edition kit that needs to be pre-ordered by January 31.  We will bring your pre-ordered kits back from Nashville on March 6.

I need to give you the unfortunate news that postage rates have increased dramatically for small packages.  Maybe I listen to the wrong news reports but I have not heard anything about the increase from the media.  Packages that cost $3.00 to mail last week are now $3.50!  Stamps went up a penny and flat rate Priority Mail packages went up a nickel.  I wish we could absorb the increase but it just is not in our budget.  Perhaps the answer is more road trips!  It is so much nicer to see things in person and feel the fabrics and fibers!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

I’m sorry it has been so long since you heard from us!  I foolishly thought that things might slow down after the holidays but the weather and various life circumstances have conspired to keep things as hectic as ever.  Thanks to my faithful computer helpers, we have a What’s New page for you at https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm . If you like pictures (and who doesn’t?), click on the catalog button and type jan18a in the keyword box.  That will give you clickable thumbnail photos of all our newest arrivals.  Yow will see an assortment that includes a Cycling Santa, Muscle Cars of the 70’s and a number of snow related designs.  We are quite ready to be finished with the real snow that has piled up around LaPorte but these stitched versions are very enticing! Enjoy looking them over and let us know which ones are destined for your collection.

We appreciate your continued patronage and look forward to serving your cross stitch needs in 2018.
