Closed January 30 & 31

Is it cold enough for you?  It certainly is for us!  We are being told that it has never been this cold since temperature records have been kept.  Due to the dangerously low temperatures as well as blowing and drifting snow, House of stitches will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday, January 30 and 31. I apologize for any inconvenience but we must put safety first.

While we are waiting out the cold and snow, there is an updated What’s New page for your enjoyment.  You can see it at https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm . The best way to survive the winter weather is by planning your next project while you work on your current one(s)!  My favorite method to view the new arrivals is to click the Catalog Button on our home page and then type Jan19b in the Keyword box.  That way you can see pictures of all the designs without the need to click on each one individually. Which ones are destined for your stash?

Banish Winter Blues!

We have added our latest arrivals to our What’s New page: https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm.  Many of you have been anticipating the arrival of the Spring line of Mill Hill kits.  Wait no more; they are here!  They provide the perfect antidote to the colder winter weather that we are experiencing here in the Midwest.  I think it is impossible to have the winter blues if you are stitching a flamingo, swimsuit, beach ball or watermelon! Select your favorites for an instant attitude adjustment.  We have a Nashville Market pre-order item from Glendon Place.  If you would like the limited edition kit called Someone We Love, we need to know right away (by Thursday, January 17).  Valentine’s Day is fast approaching! We have three heart themed designs from Heart in Hand (including the 2019 Collector’s Heart) and a Valentine Heart from Mill Hill. Those gift certificates that you received for Christmas will come in handy right about now!

If you have been wondering what Nancy has been doing since her retirement last summer, one answer is stitching!  Here is  her latest competed project. She recently finished The Shores of Hawk Run Hollow and it is framed and ready to hang.  Great job, Nancy!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!  I hope your 2019 is filled with happiness, good health, and plenty of stitching!  It is hard to believe that the holidays are behind us and it is time to get back to the regular rhythm of life and work. (We actually have one more large family gathering this weekend so that will ease the transition back to our everyday routine.) We spent Christmas Day and New Year’s Day with our children and grandchildren. Sharing food and fun with the ones you hold dear is a great way to celebrate!

While many companies and designers took time off over the holidays, the new designs still kept coming! Many are Christmas designs but that is fine with me!  I like stitching Christmas things in January when the deadlines are over and it feels virtuous to be planning ahead for next Christmas. We have two new samplers from Hands Across the Sea, five new charts from Joan Elliott, a CUTE book from Sue Hillis called Home for the Holidays and two more Gingerbread charts from Victoria Sampler.  Take a peak at these and all of the other new arrivals at https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm.

I hope this does not find you too frantic with last minute holiday preparations!  It is hard to believe that Christmas is only a few days away.  It seems like it comes earlier every year!  If you need a short respite, take a look at our What’s New page at https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm .  For a real visual treat, go to our catalog and type dec18b in the keyword box.  All of the new things will pop up in glorious color! There are many Christmas designs (start now for next year!, a new designer (WorksByABC), series continuations (Festive Little Fobs, Letters from Mom, Noah’s Christmas Ark, Plum Street animal stacks, Songbird’s Garden) and the 2019 edition of the Fiber and Fabric Mania Travel Guide  (Don’t leave home without it!).

Happy Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving to all of our U.S. friends. I am thankful for all of you reading this!  You make it possible for us to stay in business and we appreciate having so many “friends in stitches”.  We have an updated What’s  New page for you at https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm .  Included are new designs from Erica Michaels, Just Nan, La-D-Da and Victoria Sampler.  Have you started planning your projects for 2019?  Me neither!  Maybe inspiration will hit as we scroll through the newest arrivals.

Just so you are aware of our holiday hours, here is a list of the days that will be other than the normal Monday-Friday 10-5:30 and Saturday 10-3 hours.  And, remember that we are on Central (Chicago) time.

Projects for Long Evenings

Have you adjusted to the end of daylight saving time?  It seems crazy to have it get dark so early in the afternoon.  Maybe it will translate into more evening hours to stitch!  We can certainly hope so.  I know many of you are feverishly stitching on holiday projects.  If you need them for holiday gift giving, please bring them in by Thanksgiving weekend. 

Our What’s new page has a long list of new charts…and a fun pair of scissors… for your stitching enjoyment.  See them at https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm .  We have the new releases from Plum Street Samplers, With Thy Needle and Thread and Carriage House along with many others.  Two new (to us) designers are Shannon Christine and Twin Peak Primitives.  We are going to need those extra evening hours to get all of these stitched! 

We are encouraged by the increasing interest in cross stitch.  Young and old are rediscovering the joys of using needle and thread to make beautiful things.  Keep on stitching and share your love with your friends and relatives.  We appreciate your continued patronage!

New projects!

It is a rainy, blustery autumn day here in northern Indiana.  It is perfect for stitching or napping or both!!  It is also a good day to let you know that our What’s New Page has been updated with new arrivals at House of stitches.  You are sure to find a few must stitch projects here: https://www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm .  

I am happy to report that I am now walking with a cane or on my own!  It has been 5 weeks but I was beginning to wonder about how long the healing process was taking.  They told me it would take 6-8 weeks but for the first few weeks I thought things were getting worse instead of better!  Thank you all for your patience during this process!  And thanks once more to the ladies at the shop who have gone above and beyond what I ever could have expected to keep thing running.  I hope to be back to full speed ahead soon!
