Stitching in Season
|
Tuesday, October 11, 2022
Welcome, Sarah!
Hi, stitching friends!
Greetings stitchers!
A bit about myself. I live in Hobart with my husband and
our five cats. We love to hike and visit the UP of Michigan regularly. Up until
September I worked for an IT department at a university in Chicago. I’ve been
stitching (amongst other crafty endeavors) since I was a kid!
I’m so excited to be on this side of the counter providing everyone with the items they need to make beautiful things. I know I have big shoes to fill, but I am up for the challenge!
Hope to see you soon and happy stitching!

Fall Expo Arrivals!
Once again, I need to apologize for the delay in writing to you! The sale of the shop is not final but is still progressing, just not as quickly as we thought it would. In the meantime, come in and meet Sarah (almost new owner) and see all of the wonderful Online Expo items that she ordered for you. There are so many great projects!! If you want a preview or cannot visit in person, just go to our website to see them. Click on “Our Catalog” or “What’s New” at www.houseofstitches.com. There are beginner ornaments that are stitched on pierced wood, Autumn/Halloween projects galore, Colorful Cats and even designs that are displayed on rolling pins! In case you missed them, we have the 2022 Just Cross Stitch Christmas Ornament Magazine and Halloween Magazine and the 2022 Wee Santa and Prairie Schooler Santa!
And while we are thinking about Christmas and holiday stitching, let me urge you to have your projects in by Halloween. Frames are sometimes taking longer to arrive than they did in the past. We don’t want anyone to be disappointed!
As always, we are grateful for your continued support!

Exciting news!
More new designs are headed your way! Just go to www.houseofstitches.com and click on What’s
New. We added new things on the14th and more will be posted on Monday, the 29th.
One of the most exciting additions is the 2022 Just Cross Stitch Ornaments
Magazine! As usual it is filled with
great ornaments, finishing ideas and recipes.
The biggest news that I have for you is that House of
Stitches will have a new owner on September 1!
(I will let her introduce herself in the next newsletter.) After 35 years, it is time for me to spend
more time stitching, baking, spending time with my family and organizing my
stitching room. I know you will enjoy having
an energetic and enthusiastic person supplying your stitching and framing
needs. She has jumped right in with
ordering from the online Needlework Expo! I hope you will give her the loyalty and
support that I have enjoyed from you. It
has been a pleasure to make so many friends and “supply your habit”!

Summer stitching!
I hope you are having a great summer (or winter if you are in the southern hemisphere)! It is going to be very hot and humid here for the rest of the week. So, as always, it is great stitching weather.
We have more new charts to tempt you! They are arriving nearly every day! Go to www.houseofstitches.com and click on What’s New (www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm) or click on Catalog and type Aug22a. There are projects with a summer theme, Christmas designs, the latest Little House Needleworks and Nutcracker Village installments. I just realized that I forgot to include a picture of the summer issue of the Stoney Creek Magazine. If you would like a copy, put a note in the customer comments of the online order form.
It has been fun to see so many of our distant friends this summer. Plan to stop in if your vacation travels pass through our area. You can stretch your legs and enhance your stash at the same time!

I'm happy to let you know that the 2022 Just Cross Stitch Halloween Magazine arrived today! Let us know if you would like us to hold one for you or put one in the mail. We have a few copies of some previous years (2017, 2019, 2020 and 2021) if you missed one.

Happy Summer!
Happy summer! Can you believe the 4th of July is next week?! We will be closed on the 4th but otherwise we will be open our regular hours. (10-5:30 weekdays and 10-3 on Saturdays, Central Time)
I know you have been hoping for some new projects, so take a look at our What’s New Page: www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm . There are many good choices for your summer stitching pleasure. We also added two fun new scissors and some cute magnets that somehow did not get on our website sooner.
Supplies are starting to come in a little more predictably, but some things are still elusive. I think we are all learning to be more flexible and willing to substitute when necessary. So, maybe that is the silver lining to the supply chain issues.
This sweet little project has been waiting for me to finish it as a pinwheel for at least 3 years! So, I took the easy way out and "hooped" it. At least it is out of my stitching bag and you can see it! It is "Quaker Carnations Pinwheel" by Threadwork Primitives.
Choose your summer projects so you are ready for your traveling vacation or your non-traveling staycation! We look forward to being in touch with you soon. Your continued business is appreciated.

Road trip anyone?
We have a What’s New page that will help you plan your projects for the rest of the year. There are patriotic designs, fall designs, samplers and… are you ready for this?! Mill Hill Christmas kits! You can be ahead of the Christmas in July people by starting your projects in June. Be sure to see the next charts in the Year in the Woods, Nutcracker Village and Fall on the Farm series. And, we have added a couple of new designers: Dirty Annie’s and Stitches by Ethel. So many projects and so little time!!
It is summer traveling season again and we are having fun meeting new stitchers as they travel through our area. We are near I 94 and I 80/90 so stop in on your next trip. Your traveling companions can visit Little’s Chocolate Shop across the street, the Roxy Music Store downtown, several downtown antique malls and a great Ace Hardware just down the street. That way you can shop unhindered by people waiting for you.
We will be looking forward to your visit whether in person or on the web!

Two New Updates!
It has been too long since my last update! There are two What’s New postings that you
will want to see at www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm
. You don’t want to miss the new Autumn
Mill Hill kits, AuryTM’s Coffee
Definitions, Mirabilia’s new Rosamund (Sleeping Beauty), and the continuations of
all of the series designs. (Country Cottage Needleworks, Cottage Garden
Samplings, Little House Needleworks) We also have new designs from Stacy Nash,
With Thy Needle and Thread and Sue Hillis, just to name a few.
We are continuing toward the sale of the shop but we do not have a definite date yet. Please be advised that we are NOT closing. There seems to be a rumor to that effect going around and I want to dispel it! I repeat; we are NOT closing! We all need a place to shop for our counted cross stitch and needlework supplies. I will let you know when I have more a more specific timeline. Stay tuned! Your continued interest is appreciated!

Happy Easter!
Many much-anticipated designs have arrived since our last update! We now have the Spring 2022 issue of Punch Needle and Primitive Stitcher Magazine. We also have With Thy Needle and Thread’s new designs along with the latest from Stacy Nash, Needlework Press and the fifth design in the Year in the Woods series. See all the latest at www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm . It is a wonderful time to be stitching!
Spring is trying very hard to arrive here in Northwest
Indiana. We had snow yesterday but today
but today was sunny with temperatures around 60 degrees. It is spirit lifting
to see daffodils blooming! Have a blessed Easter!

Gathering Clover
We have another update with many items from the Nashville Needlework Market. See them at www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm . There are charts for babies, Christmas, samplers and even one for robotics! Dinky Dyes has four cute new scissors for the scissor collectors. I don’t know about you, but I need to learn to stitch faster!
What fun things have you been stitching lately? I am still on a monochromatic binge. The photo below shows one of my recent finishes. It is from Luminous Fiber Arts and is called “Gathering Clover”. Here’s a
link: www.houseofstitches.com/detail.cfm?ID=40528
. It also uses a couple of buttons and
that always increases the chance that I will want to stitch a design! LOL

First Nashville Market arrivals!
Friday, February 25, 2022
Spring begins next month!
Our What’s New update is a little shorter than sometimes but
it still has great new designs! The one
that speaks the most to us is from Homespun Elegance and says, “More Snow, Say It
Isn’t So”! It is almost March so spring should
be arriving soon. www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm
The Nashville Needlework Market will also be arriving
soon. I’m sorry to tell you that I won’t
be attending in person, but I should be able to get most things for you. I will just receive them in the mail or from
UPS or FedEx. The main exception will be
the “market exclusives”. And, to be truthful
about the exclusives, the designers are often sold out before the market even
opens! (That’s all I’m going to say on
that subject.) So, if there are things
that you would like, send us your list or phone us and we will do our best to
fill your order!
Below is a photo of a recent finish. I took 2 Sweetheart Tree
charts and put them together to make one design. Quaker Alphabet Square I and Quaker Alphabet
Square II fit together nicely with only a slight modification where they meet. I used 28 count Star Sapphire Jobelan and
Cadet floss from Weeks Dye Works. Here
are links to the charts:

Thank you for your continued interest. We appreciate your business!

Snowstorm!!
Hi, stitching friends!
We are experiencing a winter storm so the shop will be closed today, February 2. (Happy Ground Hog's Day!) Tomorrow is yet to be determined. Please stay safe and warm. I personally recommend power stitching in your favorite chair to combat the snow and cold! I cannot predict the weather for tomorrow so check back or phone the shop before you make the trip. If you need to reach us, the best way is through email (mail@houseofstitches.com).
Stay well and happy winter stitching,
Linda

New projects!
While many of us are in places that are snowy and cold, the designers are providing a breath of spring with some of their new designs. All of the new Mill Hill kits have arrived with birds, butterflies, bees and gnomes! There are a few nods to winter with The Snow Maiden from Mirabilia, Heart in Hand’s Doodles: Winter and from Tiny Modernist, Winter Signs. Charts that are part of a series continue with the Heart in Hand 2022 Collector’s Heart, Year in the Woods #2-Swans from Cottage Garden Samplings and the newest bowl filler chart from With Thy Needle & Thread, O Lucky Day. To see the latest arrivals, go to www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm .
We are still having issues with some suppliers. We received 5 colors of hand dyed threads today but they were 38 colors that did not arrive. A recent hand-dyed fabric shipment had the
aida colors but none of the linen that we ordered! Thankfully, with cross stitch there are MANY
options and alternatives! So far, I have
not heard of anyone who couldn’t find something to stitch. Recently we have framed many projects that
were started years ago and have finally been finished. Great accomplishments!
I recently finished a quick little project called Alphabet
in the Round by JBW Designs. For some reason my stitching is in a monochrome
phase. This one has two shades of pink and the
designer suggests two other color options. (Thanks, Judy!) Or you can be bold and use your own favorite
colors! Mine is on 32 count cream
Belfast and fits nicely in a six-inch hoop. I used Classic Colorworks Strawberry Parfait and DMC 761.
Keep on stitching; we believe it is keeping many of us sane! Thank you for your continued interest.

Happy New Year!
Here we are at the beginning of another year, 2022! It is like the Christmas carol says, “fast away the old year passes”. I hope you were able to end the year with family and friends. I know it is still difficult to get together with Covid once again spreading at an alarming rate. Were you able to spend time reflecting on why we celebrate Christmas? What an incredible gift God gave us in the form a baby to bring light and hope to a dark, desperate world. It is my hope that you have that hope and light in your life!
Our What’s New page has been updated with the final 2021 edition. You can see all the latest arrivals at www.houseofstitches.com/whatsnew.cfm . While there are still many holiday projects, there is a good variety. We have gnomes, the start of a new Little House Needleworks series (Fall on the Farm), the second in the Country Cottage Needleworks Nutcracker Village, and new charts from Just Nan, Plum Street and Annie Beez.
We do not know what 2022 holds for us. We would still love to find a new owner for the shop. Business is better than ever but I am older than ever! LOL Who would like to take the shop into the next era?
I wish you the best for the new year. I am anxious to see what wonderful projects you will stitch! I is amazing to see your works of art!
Happy New Year!
